Ilocos Norte Seminar-Workshop on Natural Heritage and Music

On February 24, 2024, I was thrilled to conduct an engaging seminar-workshop for teachers from Ilocos Norte, focused on my advocacy for cultural relevance in education. Held in Laoag City, the province’s capital, this event was particularly special as I had the opportunity to distribute copies of my book, “Aweng ti Kailokuan: The Musical Heritage of the Ilocanos, Book One,” equipping educators with valuable resources for their classrooms.

I am incredibly grateful to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for the grant that made this possible. Their support allowed me to share these important materials with educators across Ilocos Norte.

This seminar-workshop is part of an ongoing series I’ve been conducting in collaboration with the Kannawidan Foundation. It’s a chance for teachers to engage with the rich cultural resources I’ve collected from around the province and learn innovative pedagogical strategies for incorporating them into their teaching. Together, we’re working to make education more culturally relevant and impactful for our students!
