The IKS László Vikár Forum for Folk Music Research aims to unite folk music scholars globally, complementing individual research efforts inspired by pioneers like Krohn, Bartók, and Kodály. The Forum’s primary goal is to support high-quality school music programs in countries implementing the Kodály approach by pooling expertise and resources.
Research focuses on three areas:
folk music collection, transcription, and analysis
connections between folk and composed music
curriculum development based on folk and composed music
The Forum fosters collaboration among musician-scientists, sharing findings through occasional papers, monographs, audio-visual recordings, online databases, and symposium reports, all under the International Kodály Society.
