Part 2 | Cultural Relevance in Action
- Working with Future Educators and Conductors at UP -
The second workshop was held at the University of the Philippines on February 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., under the title “Developing Philippine Music Resources: Cultural Relevance in the Classroom and Choirs.” Organized by the UP Junior Music Educators’ Guild (UP JMEG) and the UP Junior Philippine Conductors Association (UP JPCA), the session provided an opportunity to work with students on practical teaching strategies for the classroom, as well as approaches to arranging choral music using materials drawn from my field research. I am deeply grateful to their mentors—Ms. Anna Patricia Carranza, Dr. Beverly Shangkuan-Cheng, and Dr. Joan Hope Elgincolin—for their support and for bringing their students to participate in this workshop.
