On March 2, 2000, an adventure awaited me as I teamed up with a fearless public school teacher to cross the Mataag River! With no transportation in sight, we plunged into the refreshing waters on foot, making our way to Sinikking, Rizal, Cagayan, Region 2, Philippines. The water was waist-deep, and I couldn’t have been more grateful for my amazing crew who helped carry my recording gadgets across safely. It was a thrilling journey filled with camaraderie and a dash of daring spirit! It was all worth it, as I had the privilege of meeting wonderful people in the Malaueg-speaking community who shared precious songs and rhymes, such as “Fan Fan Gallefan,” “Nenu,”and “Paloma nga Masingang Co,” which you can find in the publication, Philippine Children’s Songs, Spoken Rhymes and Games for Teaching, Book Two.
